It’s been a long, hard decline for
Manziel, who has had repeated drug and crime issues off the field in his tenure as an NFL quarterback, did not check into a treatment facility of any kind; so now Rosenhaus officially walked away from his now former client.
Last Wednesday, Rosenhaus initially handed down the ultimatum:
More recently, a grand jury in Dallas, Texas is expected to rule on whether or not the former QB should be charged with assault in an open domestic violence case from January.
In that incident, Manziel’s ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley accused the football player of striking her back in January, and eventually reported him to police as a threat to himself and others, forcing Dallas cops to go on a manhunt for the athlete.
Prosecutors are presenting evidence to the grand jury for that case on Thursday; ESPN reports the grand jury could come back as soon as Monday with a recommendation on whether to bring charges.
That incident, as well as other run-ins with the law and repeated alcohol and drug abuse allegations, caused Manziel’s first agent, Erik Burkhardt, to fire him back in February.
Rosenhaus picked him up as a client at that point, and despite the Browns releasing the quarterback in early March, the new agent obviously felt like he could find Manziel a job with another team ahead of this season.
Now, once again, that looks increasingly unlikely.
Above all, we just hope Johnny gets right with his health and whatever alcohol or drug issues have persisted over the last few years.
Playing football, and the business of the sport, are obviously secondary to what he’s facing when it comes to turning his life around.
